BIO: Tara grew up in London, Ontario, recently completing a BA in English and a graduate diploma in Public Relations from University of Western Ontario. She loves writing and spending time with her family and friends.

Tara’s outgoing personality and warm smile always make people feel welcome, as she enjoys meeting new people or exploring different cultures.

Her family is most important to her and she is very close with her younger brother and mom. Tara also has a small dog, Ruby, who spends most of her little life chasing squirrels and going for hikes with mom.

When Tara is not working full time in communications at a local government organization, she spends her time travelling.

Whether it’s for leisure or volunteering abroad in impoverished countries, she is looking to make a difference and see something new.

Tara lives life to the fullest, thrives off helping others, and believes in following your dreams no matter what. All three of these qualities are the ingredients for a positive happy life.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I enjoy being active outside, hiking, boating, and walking my dog. I also love to be creative and most enjoy painting and writing.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

Since I was a child I have played piano, I starting taking lessons when I was 7 years old.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

Soccer

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

My brother is the most important person in my life and he inspires me everyday to be who I am and to follow my dreams. He is my best friend and I couldn’t be more blessed to have him in my life.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

My proudest personal accomplishment was graduating university. It was a lot of hard work and it was important for my family to see me graduate.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

The most interesting thing about me is my eyes, they generally spark conversation and people are very interested in them.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My career ambition is to complete my masters in Communication and New Media -- I have researched a good program at McMaster University.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

My dream job would be to be a writer for Vanity Fair magazine.

If yes, what is your occupation?

I work in communications for a local government organization.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in London Ontario with a very loving and supportive family. My mom was especially always there for me and my brother and we would spend lots of time with my family who lived near by. I always remember going camping as a family every summer. It was a happy and loving childhood.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

During university, I worked as personal support worker at the local hospital emergency room. This was definitely an interesting experience and I was able to see all sorts of things.

List any volunteering you have done.

I volunteer for the local International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) helping plan the professional development events. I have also done volunteering overseas with a medical group and at the hospital for sick children.

What is your most unusual talent?

Making people feel welcome and comfortable.

Where is the most interesting place you have been?

The most interesting place I’ve been is Peru. Last year I had the honour to join a local group of cardiac health professionals on a medical mission to Peru. I was able to help at the orphanage and small medical clinics, as well as see the beautiful countryside like Machu Picchu.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years I would like to be writing a book and raising awareness for local/foreign issues.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

People often tell me that my selflessness inspires them. I often am able to put the needs of others before my own in times of need. I love to help others and would love the opportunity to be able to do this formally for the rest of my life.
