Height: 5'6"

Hometown: Toronto

BIO: Amanda is a caring, goal-oriented and ambitious individual. She is currently in her 4th year at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology studying Criminology with further hopes of attending law school.

Amanda comes from a European background, and as a young child was brought up with core values of acceptance for everyone and helping those in need. Living in Canada, where multiculturalism is vibrantly evident, she feels that it is important to accept every individual person as a unique being.

Throughout the past, Amanda has contributed her time to various charities like Free the Children, Variety the Children’s Charity, SOS Children’s Villages, and many others. She feels that every small act a person makes contributes greatly as a whole, but it does take the effort of many to really make a difference.

Through the participation of other pageants in her past, Amanda feels that each one allows her for greater opportunities.

“Believing is Achieving” and “The best way to predict the future, is to create it” are two quotes that Amanda feels have a significant meaning to her and really have helped her through life. In her spare time she enjoys Latin dancing, working out, jogging, tennis and travelling.

With the title of Miss Universe Canada Amanda hopes to bring awareness to the importance of contributing and helping others within society, and hopes to become a role model for other young women, proving that anything can be accomplished.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I would definitely have to say that I love to travel and dancing has been my passion from a very young age. As years go by my list of interests grows because new opportunities to experience unique things present themselves every day of our lives.

I also do enjoy helping others and find it very rewarding to see that with a simple gesture you can change the direction of someone’s day or even entire life. I gain a high level of satisfaction that, with helping others I am also able to achieve my own personal goals.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

One person that definitely has an influence on my life is my aunt. She is the type of person that you can admire for her patience and involvement in the community. When it comes to giving a helping hand, she will always be there with a smile and enthusiasm. I find that when she is around, she has a heart of gold that can be seen, admired and undeniably pleasurable to be around; someone you would want as a positive role model in your life.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Throughout my childhood and up until now I have been truly blessed with so many opportunities to develop my skills and talents. Everything that I have learned or gained is an important and proud accomplishment that allows me to look at life with a different perspective. Some of these skills that I have developed contribute to making me a better person.

Initially, I would have to say that my biggest accomplishment is having the opportunity to have met so many different ambitious and influential people through everything that I have done and had the chance to experience.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

I am the type of person that tries always to settle things between others; in a way a mediator. With future plans of becoming a lawyer, I find this skill very beneficial to me and with many instances where disputes do arise I find myself in the middle trying to find a solution. I see this as a positive attribute that I possess because finding a result and helping others is an accomplishment in itself.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My future life plan is to become a successful corporate lawyer. The only way I can accomplish this goal is by using every skilled I have learned from textbooks, teachers, professors, and those around, and combining it with my determination to strive forward. The truth is that nothing cannot be accomplished when backed up with ambition and strong will power.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

A dream job for me would be one where I wake up in the morning happy, thrilled and excited to go to work. Ideally it would be a job that allows me to help others, has a significant degree of contribution to society and makes a difference in people’s lives. It would be a job that I look at as a hobby in life not a necessity, something that I need to do.

Are you currently a student?

Yes

If yes, where?

Area of study:

University of Ontario Institute of Technology- Social Sciences and Humanities—with a minor specialization in Criminology

Are you currently employed?

Yes

If yes, what is your occupation?

Currently I work part-time in the restaurant service industry

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in the suburbs of Toronto in a very loving and caring family that gave me various opportunities to develop my talents and experience new things. I am truly lucky to have been able to participate in various extra-curricular activities from a young age.

However, it is not just the opportunities I had as a child that makes me the young woman I am today, but it is the lessons I have been taught by my parents. I have been brought up to believe that treating others like you would yourself is important and to never give up on anything—keep your head up high and keep trying.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

Every job I have had has been an experience in its own. I have not had the opportunity to work in many workplace scenarios because of my busy extracurricular life. However from each workplace you get an opportunity to experience something new, interesting and unusual.

With every job valid life skills are learned, which allows you to take what is necessary from each situation and apply it later in life in different situations.

List any volunteering you have done.

Breast Cancer Society, Sick Kids Hospital, Free the Children, SOS Children’s Villages & Variety the Children’s Charity

What is your most unusual talent?

I would have to say that my most unusual talent is remembering specific details of things that I truly to do not even put an emphasis on trying to remember. For example. specific details in a room I once saw, or the exact page that talked about something specific in a book I read. It is sometimes the smallest, strangest details that stick out and for some reason I remember them.

Where is the most interesting place you have been?

The most interesting place that I have been would have to be Williamsburg, Virginia. This place had the most fascinating culture and atmosphere, it was simply outstanding. It is a town within itself bringing you back hundreds of years and showing what life was like before, but doing so in the middle of the city with restaurants and attractions all around engulfing you with an interesting feel.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years from now I hope to be settled, hopefully have a family and be living a happy life. My main hope is to have accomplished my goals, but even more so not to have any regrets and no questions of “what if…?”.

I would want to be able to look back and be satisfied with my life and pleased with how far have come, looking forward to the next ten years.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

I am the type of person that will try anything once. I love adventure and am not afraid of new experiences, doing new things and meeting new people. A quote that I find inspiring is “Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions,” (Albert Einstein) – it shows that only you can stop yourself from experiencing things in life to the fullest.
