Miss Japan, Haruna Ai wins Miss International Queen 2009

37 year old Haruna Ai, Miss Japan won the title of Miss International Queen 2009 in a beauty pageant held in Pattaya, Thailand on October 31. She was crowned by Tanyarat Jirapatpakon, Miss International Queen 2007. The pageant for transsexuals and transvestites is aimed at the promotion of tolerance and positive attitude towards transsexuals and transvestites.

In addition to the winner's trophy and tiara, Haruna receives cash prizes totaling $10,000 and gifts from sponsors. Haruna and fellow Japanese Tukishima Beni also won prizes the night before when they took the top and runner-up spots at a talent contest. The weeklong event is produced and organized by Tiffany’s Show Pattaya, the world’s largest transvestite/transgender cabaret show and supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Close to the title was the 1st run-up, Miss Brazil, Daniela Marquez. And the 2nd run-up went to Miss Thailand, Kangsadal Wongdusadeekul.
