Miss Earth Botswana 2009, Tumisang Sebina was disqualified

Tumisang Sebina, Miss Earth Botswana 2009 was disqualified from joining in the Miss Earth 2009 to be held in Boracay, Philippines on November 22 because of her height.

Miss Earth-Botswana project manager, Beatrice Barrows said in an interview that they were disappointed by the turn of events because they never thought height would be an issue in the pageant.

Barrow said they were only informed about this some weeks ago, noting that the organisers wanted at least 1.64m while Tumisang is 1.55m tall.

She said that has taught them a lesson and expressed the hope that they would not repeat the same mistake, adding that was somehow a challenge to them to prepare their contestants well in time so that when situations like these arise they were not caught unawares.

However, she explained that Tumisang was engaged in different environmental projects around the country. Miss Earth is an annual international beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness.

Along with Miss Universe and Miss World pageants, Miss Earth is one of the three largest beauty pageants in the world in terms of the number of national-level competitions to participate in the world finals.

The Miss Earth winner serves as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations.
