Vo Hoang Yen will represent Vietnam in Miss Universe 2009
Vo Hoang Yen, was declared as the new Miss Universe Vietnam 2009. She is 21 year old model and student from Ho Chi Minh City. Vo stands 1.79m tall and will represent her country at the Miss Universe 2009 Beauty Pageant on August 23 to be held in Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas.
The Hoan Vu company, the organizer of the Miss Universe 2008 Contest which was held in Nha Trang, Vietnam handpicked Vo Hoang Yen, who had been the 1st runner-up in Miss Universe Vietnam 2008.
The controversial issue that made headlines in Vietnam when the Ministry of Culture passed a regulation that allowed only one major pageant a year. This year, the license was given to Mrs. Vietnam contest. Pageant officials tried to appeal this decision, stating that Mrs. contests could not be compared with Miss contests, but no agreement was reached.
