Miss Universe 2008 Top 10 Best National Costumes
The national costume competition of Miss Universe 2008 beauty pageant was held last June 22 at the Lions Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City and was televised live by HTV9. Each of the 80 contestants paraded on stage displaying the crafts and cultures of their respected country.
A distinguished panel of judges was in charge of selecting the Top 10 Best Costumes:
- Mr. Le Xuan Than : Head of Miss Universe 2008 Vietnam Organizing Board
- Mrs. Rachel Frimer : Vice President, Production, of the Miss Universe Organization
- Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan : President of Unicorp
- Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh : General director of Cat Tien Sa company
- Mr. Nguyen Chi Tan : Deputy chairman of HTV Station
- Mr. Vuong Trieu Vu : Samsung Marketing Director
- Miss Riyo Mori : The reigning Miss Universe 2007
The National Costume Competition was sponsored by Samsung and the Top 10 finalists each got a Samsung Armani cellular phone, valued at US $1000 each.
After the parade of contestants and a couple of performances, the Top 10 Best in National Costume were announced and they are:

Voting will be opened soon on NBC.com to select the Best National Costume. The winner will be announced during the Miss Universe Pageant final telecast in July 14, 2008.

Those are carnaval costumes in stead of national costumes.

Some of the costumes entered in the Top 10 because they're humongous and huge. DR, Albania, South Africa and Poland were the only pardonable ones.
Thailand should have made it! The costume is so cool!

I believe that the Mexican national custom is the most amazing and beautiful. It represents part of the origin of Mexican civilisation with the Pyramid of Chichén-Itzá. In addition, a national custom is evaluted by what it represents. I agree, it is a huge custom, as huge as the Mexican Culture is.
Miss Philippines will be the next Miss Universe, hands down, beautiful and intelligent and deliciously brown complexion

The Mexican Costume is the closer dress to a national costumes in the top ten finalist. It includes and shows the most representative meanings of the history, traditions of this contry which includes the Mayan Culture. Who recenty the most famous pyramid was select as one the the 7 modern wonders on 2007.

Miss Panama,have the most original and expensive national costume it's made all by hand and the jewelry is all real(original) 18K Gold, Pearls, Coral and emeralds. This costume can't be in the top 10 because have no competition.
Miss Phillipines looks like a transexual. Only Miss New Zealand, Miss Australia, Miss India and Miss Montenegro look original and without any plastic surgery.

Miss Trinidad & Tobago had the best costume BY FAR! This pagent is shaping up to be one of the most biased Miss Universe competitions ever. All of the favourite girls appear to have the same look (light skinned latina with black hair or nothern indian look). I will not be suprised if the winner has been chosen already...
For my opinion, Miss Thailand Universe shows her unique more than other country with the presentation that's various from others. Although her national costume doesn't cover all of her country's culture or civilization, it's shown the most well-known which no country has, Muay Thai. I think she should get the winner for Best National Costume this year. Sorry, I'm from Venezuela.
Miss Australia, Miss U.S.A and Miss India as they have the sophistication, class and modesty as true ladies possess.
Miss India for her orginal Indian costume, Miss Australia for the colors of Australia and looking gorgeous as ever and Miss South Africa for the beautiful costume.

Miss Kosovo[beautiful] looks sorta like angelina jolie and she is wearing the kosovo[Albanian] national costume and looks really good
From what I could see, there were only a couple of "national costumes" - namely, Panama and Norway. Some of the others belong in Las Vegas. And, I have studied international folk costumes for many years.
