Nathalia Moreira

Miss Earth Spain 2012

BIO:
Age: 20
Height: 5'8"
Profession: Actress and TV Presentor

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
The fundamental key of this project, for the protection of Mother Earth, it would create projects based on the increased use of renewable energy. It always oriented to the increased use of our greatest treasures such as sun, water, wind and earth. The ambition of the human and the need for development of the current population, promotes the human being to carry out activities that significantly degrade our planet, Earth. It would be essential from education centers and schools work much for the participation, motivation, and education of young people, who will bear the burden of this responsibility tomorrow. And education that really is able to achieve these objectives is which is directed towards the transformation of social patterns, economic, and cultural causes of current problems in the context of sustainable development. The creation of these laws and more severe and critics social models would significantly reduce the chastisement received by the planet earth.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
For me, Spain is a collective project. I could highlight innumerable aspects, impossible in a few lines, among which may emphasize tourism, art and gastronomy. Fortunately in my country can enjoy an exceptional climate and stunning coastline, where thousands of tourist visit throughout the year, in addition to all the monuments that they can visit daily in every corner of Spain. Art and traditional Spanish festivals, is another point that I would like to mention, naming among others, Flamenco and Bullfighting, although the latter is a source of different opinions in the country. And lastly, we can miss a mention of our gastronomy, highlighting of every community (region) a typical dish, crops, extensive vineyards and olive groves, inter alia.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
Since I was little I learned to live with many cultures because my parents were very adventurous, I learned to enjoy and meet people very different. My parents separated and that helped me to mature very soon. In my family are all doctors, my father attended in a public hospital in Brasil and there he contracted an illness, it taught me that in life you have to fight for what you like and took risks if it’s to follow your vocation. During a time I lived with my grandmother and this time I learned to be more orderly and above be positive. I was a very happy child, I always played to be a mayor miss with my mom I visited senior centers to make them fun, visit prisons...etc. We actually continue doing it. I think I was born with the vocation to help others.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I learned the law of cause and effect, that everything you do is you somehow have to get back. I also learned that it is important to maintain good energy to give you back even better. Life is like a mirror that gives you back what you give. While we are on continuous connection to the universe.

What is your most memorable moment?
My initiation into Reiki, because I've seen it with the power of my life in my hands. I found a different way to live and be more in touch with our origin ... nature.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
In fact I proposal to the environment would be a lot of these together, because there are too many proposals which should be carried out. But mostly conduct an continuing campaign on the serious situation facing the planet Earth, due of global warming. I would work hard the subject of pollution generated by fossil fuels, exerting pressure to incentivize the non-polluting substitutes search. The eliminating the exploitation of oil. It would also be essential: reuse, recycle or repair. No generate smoke outdoors or splurge the most important thing we have of our planet, water. Make our own home more efficient, a non-toxic home. Other campaigns would promote the cultivation of native plants as well as support to farmers, developing an intense campaign against the destruction of the last remaining rainforests of the planet and also a ban on logging.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Becoming aware. We are in 2012according to the UN declared the International Year of Sustainable Energy. Know this and be aware of it allowed me to take measures such as using energy saving light bulbs at home, recycling, eliminate plastic bags and use biodegradable products.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the organization for making this great work. All my life I've been enjoying taking knowledge of the nature and energy of the universe. Having this opportunity to choose the crown of Miss Earth and work for a better world for me is priceless. I feel like a winner to be present as a candidate and thereby provide always believe in a project to change the world one at a personal level, because in the end our energy is the energy of the earth and the universe and allows us to be in harmony with the four elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth of course.

Miss Earth South Africa 2012

BIO:
Age: 25
Height: 5'10.5"
Weight: 120lbs.
Vital Stats: 34"-25"-37"
Hometown: Sandton

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I come from a country where we are rich in renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy and wave energy. My goal is to create more sustainable energy in areas of my country that are under privileged to help alleviate power costs and also reduce impact on mother earth. I think it is important to plant trees and vegetable gardens as it has a positive environmental impact. Having been able to do this in many communities in South Africa I have created a footprint and a sustainable future for the next generation.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
As a South African my pride is in the struggle we had survived as a nation. We were to true freedom by our former President Mr. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who stood up to unfair policies that are non democratic. I am able to stand before you today as a result of his determination for a better South Africa. A country which is beautiful, diverse and interesting. Tourists flock to South Africa for the natural beauty, wildlife and sunshine. The varied terrain supports a rich diversity of animals, birds, and plant-life which offers an incomparable range of experiences. Through the beauty of our homeland, nature has been able to craft itself into a vista of 9 majestic provinces each having its own serenity and mineral wealth. Our land encompasses a huge collection of wildlife areas and game parks - both public and private. South Africa has a variety of every possible landscape from deserts to forests, mountains to coast - including Africa’s Big 5: Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhinoceros. The jewel in the crown would have to be that of South Africa’s diverse languages, culture and religion each bringing value to our rich heritage. Bio-diversity has played an influential role in the growth of my land. Plants and animals are part of our traditions and culture. The Protea is our national emblem, proudly emblazoned on the jerseys of rugby players. The Western Cape's Floral Regions are also key assets for our eco-tourism industry. People come from afar to admire the colors and patterns of the South African countryside. Its features which are themselves produced by biodiversity.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I witnessed a lot of things growing up which had a disturbing affect on me which had sparked a passion towards the environment. I had developed a strong love for animals where I had the gift of being able to care and nurture baby animals that were killed by poachers. I managed to save a calf (buffalo) named bouril who’s mother was killed by poachers.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
During these years I learned a humane term “responsibility” and how to care for others, other than myself. I learned how to care for animals and my environment and for me these years were the foundation of my environmental passion. I was also abandoned by my father and learned that even without him everything was still possible. My influential mother gracefully supported me in my plight to help the planet and to be focused in my life term goals.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment was when I was called out as a Miss Earth South Africa winner, it was a moment where I had realized that my dream of being an environmental leader in my country and a role model for women, men and the ever growing youth. Graduating from my 2 law degrees was an unforgettable experience as I suffer from dyslexia I was told at a young age that I wouldn’t be able to overcome my schooling. I proved my doctor wrong and broke the boundaries and set greater goals for myself and to be the most influential leader I can be.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
Conservation of Wildlife: I have a deep seated passion for wildlife and committed to making a difference. My project for the forthcoming year will be energy based. Many of our children’s lives are destroyed by fire and these very fires are caused by malfunctioning equipment as well as liquid paraffin.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Household could use solar geysers and chargers to go partially off grid. For instance, taking your iPad, tablets and mobile phones off the grid by using solar charging. Thus, we are using natural energy to power our mobile technology which plays a detrimental part of our lives. This will be a step closer to saving more energy.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I want to be the voice and the leader who acts what she says not just for my country but globally for the Miss Earth organization. I want to win Miss Earth and commit to it whole heartedly as it is embedded in my DNA to be the aid that people need and to focus on renewable energy resources to overcome the detrimental impacts of fossil fuels.

Anjeza Barbatovci - Miss Earth Slovenia 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Slovenia Anjeza Barbatovci

Anjeza Barbatovci

Miss Earth Slovenia 2012

BIO:
Age: 21
Height: 5'8.5"
Weight: 119lbs.
Vital Stats: 33"-25"-33"
Hometown: Ljubljana
Profession: Regulation Personnel

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I am really glad that this year's chosen theme was sustainable energy, because I worked all year with different related projects in Slovenia. With sustainable energy we can really do something for our nature that nature can do something for us. Even if we are a small country we have a lot of benefits, that we can use for sustainable energy. We have Kras where there is a lot of wind and have some pinwheels at the same time. We have also a lot of sun around the country so lately solar panels on the roofs are very popular with houses. I am doing a project to present a little bit more about the solar panels to our elder people, because in Slovenia we have a lot of houses that could accommodate the solar panels on the roof. A lot of them do not know that EU gives grands to put solar panels at your home which allows you to sell electricity to your own country. If we would have more of those houses, more of pinwheels, we would not cause much destruction to our lands.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
My country has a lot of mountains, seaside, forest and beautiful cities that made me proud and glad to be in Slovenia. Lately a lot of things go in the direction towards doing a lot for our land. In our country we separate waste, not just at our households but also in the middle of the cities, we build a lot of energy saving houses with solar panels, we are produce a lot of ecological food and we care for the forest and clean the water.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I am proud to grow up in a family with a lot of children. It was always fun even despite being the tallest one. After school I always played with them at home or outside. We had a lot of good times and we were together all the time so we didnt need many friends. At weekends we traveled a lot to different countries with my parents. We saw a lot of beautiful places, although a lot of kids didn't like that, because in our country it is not so popular to travel a lot and far. I think that because of the traveling all these years I would also love to travel now, alone or with my family or friends. Aside from traveling I attended a lot of different sports after school, including ballet, tennis, basketball, couple dance, etc. I will always remember these years because after that, I became a grown girl who didn't play with toys anymore but I started to do a lot of new things that was more important in my life.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I had a lot of lessons over the years. The first ones were discipline, order, share since I am from big family and always had to share everything with my sisters. I was the oldest one so I was responsible if anything went wrong wherever we were or whatever we do. I also learned when my father died that life became unpredictable. I became a strong responsible woman who can carry herself, can help others and help my sisters. I saw my studies alone didn't help my family so I also started to work, and I am glad for that because I am now in a chocolate shop managing all 4 shops.

What is your most memorable moment?
There are a lot of those moments but the most memorable are the ones when we were all together at the seaside over a month and had a lot of good times.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
I also want to promote ecological food in our country just as we did in our chocolate shop - an Eco chocolate and spread.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
I think we could do more free advertising related to the environment. I would ask TV to give some free advertising placements, go to different schools and talk with young population and tell them how can save our land.

Martina Gresova - Miss Earth Slovak Republic 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Slovak Republic Martina Gresova

Martina Gresova

Miss Earth Slovak Republic 2012

BIO:
Age: 26
Height: 5'7.5"
Weight: 110lbs.
Vital Stats: 35"-23"-35"
Hometown: Humenne
Profession: Principal Administrator

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
We are humans and we are part of the environment. There are over 6 billion of us on Earth. Our actions have a big impact on the environment. Everyone has to start from ourselves. Our children are our future and also the future of Mother Earth, so my project would be ECO KIDS. It is very important that each and every parent can teach the kids how to protect the Earth form the home. Some examples would be recycling cans and bottles instead of just throwing them away, using cloth bags at the grocery store and to always have one on hand. Replace regular light bulbs with their energy efficient counterparts. Grow an organic garden. Lessen the use of cars and walk or bike instead. Reuse clothing. Unplug chargers, when they are not charging. These are few examples that can change your life and the lives of your children.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
I am proud I represent my lovely country the Slovak Republic. I love my country and I know everyone who will come here will fall in love with this peaceful country. The capital Bratislava is a cosmopolitan city with a rich cultural life. Slovakia's cities and folk culture reflect a long and varied history. People in Slovakia are friendly, kind-hearted, sociable and always well tuned. I love people who live here. On surface is a land of rugged mountains whose steep slopes attract climbers, hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. Long valleys are guarded by romantic castles. I hope Slovakia will stay green, full of forests, mountains and valleys.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I can describe my childhood and growing years as the best time in my life. It was a time full of games, smiling, fresh air and nature. I always spent my free time in the village where my grandparents lived. I used to spend a lot of time playing games with my brother and sister with nature. We gathered mushrooms with my father. He taught us how to make special tools/toys from wood. I also had my own sheep called Basko. I took care of him and fed him. I grew up in a warm-hearted and caring family. I love my family and I would never change them for anything in the world.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
My parents always taught me to be share and be kind and pleasant to others. "You can get just what you give." For my whole life I've been living by this phrase. I grew up with my older sister and my younger brother. We get something every time, especially sweets and we share them equally. So the lesson which I have learned is to share- to share your smile, to share your love, to share everything that can make other people happy.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment is when my whole family meet together. We used to meet at least three times a year; mostly it was on the most important holidays like Christmas, New Year's Eve and Easter. It was crazy, because in one house, in one room, around one table was about 20 people. Cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents etc. It was crazy, but in the best sense of the word. We were laughing all the time, we were talking about what we experienced. We always brought gifts for others. I loved these moments and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
I would love to be the one who protects Mother Earth and the one who could teach others about sustainable energy which is so important these days. We need people to get to know what they can do to protect nature, to protect the Earth, not just for now and for us, but for our future and the future of our children. From a young age, I have been aware of my responsibility to protect the environment. When I was younger I joined activities like tree planting, recycling cans and newspapers. I also volunteer to pick-up litter on special days. I also used to speak to audiences about what young people can do for the environment. I think that each person has to start with thinking and together we can do something big. I think that people should live in harmony with nature.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
I would like to promote higher use of renewable energy sources in Slovakia. The goal of the strategy is to achieve competitive energetics providing safe, reliable and efficient delivery of all forms of energy at affordable prices with the aim to protect the customer, environment and support sustainable developments and provide security of supply and technical safety.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I would like to kindly thank you all for opportunity and for the chance to be part of Miss Earth 2012.

Phoebe Tan - Miss Earth Singapore 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Singapore Phoebe Tan

Phoebe Tan

Miss Earth Singapore 2012

BIO:
Age: 24
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 121lbs.
Vital Stats: 34"-26"-36"
Hometown: Singapore
Profession: Senior Sales Engineer

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I would like to create an environmental project where every country makes a move to delegate a large portion of their country for an all eco, natural and environmental friendly development for urbanization. From there we start to grow and expand towards the whole country. Be it using green technologies, renewable resources, natural resources to supply light and water and green materials to give shelter. The reason being, we have to go back to our basics, which is to live in and love. When we love the environment, only then can we put into action what our heartstrings draw us to. Also, to use the environment as an educational platform to nurture children and youth as a place where they can come together to enjoy and learn. For me, we do not just live in this world, but the world lives within us.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I had an amazing childhood! I was a very active child and loved embarking on new endeavors. My mother always told me that I was dancing since I could walk and she gave me my first pair of ballet shoes when I was 5 years old. I have not looked back since and started dancing and performing ballet. My love of ballet evolved to an interest in classical music and I begin learning the piano as well. Apart from the arts, I was also actively engaged in outdoor activities like competitive swimming and won several medals. Another aspect was my active volunteering with a youth group to work with a home for the autistic. These left with me lessons and experiences. As I was a very outgoing individual and always loved trying out new things, my childhood was filled with many adventures. An example would be me mustering up the courage to climb the Gloucester tree, the second tallest tree in the world! My younger years were also filled with plenty of travels to foreign and exciting countries with my family and we would always seek out the natural environment of various countries, navigate and drive miles and miles off the beaten track by ourselves just to see the place. Through all these, family bonding and independence has been an important part of my childhood years.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
My childhood years have played a significant role in molding me to be the person I am today. The rigor of being a ballerina, perfecting each new step and choreography has taught me to have discipline, perseverance and always to give the best in everything I do. Through dance I have learned to continuously to express and not to impress. Competitive swimming has taught me to have sportsmanship and teamwork and that there are no limits, only the ones I set for myself. It was also during the time spent with my family that I nurtured many values and morals that I hold true til today. My parents have always taught me that filial piety is very important, to be grounded and put in continual care to cultivate and nurture correct principles. I have brought along these with me therefore I use the same approach in everything I do. Just like caring for Mother Earth with patience and nurturing, we can go a long way. Through my travels and encounters with nature from my younger years, every journey has instilled in me beautiful returns of nature and honed my strong passion towards loving and wanting to return back what Mother Earth has done for us.

What is your most memorable moment?
There have been many memorable moments in my life and I am glad to have experienced them! My most priceless memorable moment would have to be being crowned as Miss Earth Singapore 2012! The memory still vivid in my mind was when I was called out as the winner. The whole hall, my family and friend’s delighted faces and shouts of joy reflected my own, as they knew deep down how important this was to me, and everyone of them played a role in my journey. Miss Earth Singapore 2012 has been a culmination of hard work and endurance therefore it is a moment that I hold close to my heart as it demonstrates that dreams can become a reality, because only if you have a dream can you put your best foot forward into action towards what you want to achieve. The title of Miss Earth Singapore and tasks has deeply etched in me the awareness and consciousness of the importance of loving Mother Earth. Knowing that I have been chosen as an advocate to represent my country and save the earth that I love will always be a thriving memory.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmental advocacy is to promote sustainable energy and the use of energy efficient products. I strongly believe that we who live in this huge universe of ours, have enjoyed what Mother Earth has given to us, and used her resources, therefore being able to sustain what we are enjoying now for future generations is very important. It is a character and responsibility that we should adopt and this is something everyone should play a part in. My environmental advocacy is also in tune with what I do daily in my profession. My company and country has been a huge influence on me as we promote the importance of conserving and sustaining energy, using products which do not harm the ozone layer.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
We all face a huge problem which is climate change. Therefore some of the tips that I would like to promote towards sustainable energy are to make use of solar energy since solar energy is an inexhaustible, natural and renewable resource! Another tip would be during the use of electrical appliances, to choose those which are energy efficient and make use of waste heat from these green appliances to generate heat for other usage! Most importantly, for us to raise awareness and ignite action to the preservation of Mother Earth!

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
Being part of the Miss Earth family has taught me many important aspects and given me a holistic approach to my daily life. What truly inspires me, are the positive smiles on people's faces during my journey when I share with them more about the environment and what we are doing to it, seeing youth displaying the same energy and passion for the same cause, hearing stories from the elders on how they lead and will change their daily routines. To me, being able to inspire and empower the community to make a collective effort to stop depleting our Earth’s natural resources is truly important. Daily I start off by reminding myself that a positive mindset begets positive returns and end my day with the notion to smile like tomorrow will have the brightest sunshine! I also live by the verse Proverbs 16:9 “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps”. I strongly believe that we are like the tiny stars that individually shine, but when combined together can light up a whole universe.

Sara Pender - Miss Earth Scotland 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Scotland Sara Pender

Sara Pender

Miss Earth Scotland 2012

BIO:
Age: 23
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 133lbs.
Vital Stats: 32"-26"-36"
Hometown: Lanarkshire

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
As I work for one of the biggest retail giants in the UK I want to work with them to reduce their carbon footprint and help them with the recycling and reduction of plastic bag usage. We already want to reduce our energy costs by L700,000 and become a greener work place. I have already done research into how we could encourage customers to use eco-friendly bags and ways to encourage customers to recycle their old plastic bags. I am intent to try and implement my ideas throughout the Glasgow Branch and then hopefully out to the rest of the partnership.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
Scotland although a small country, is one of the most beautiful in the world. The central belt of Scotland is busy, full of culture and seeped into a dark history. However, with a half hour drive you are in a totally different environment, where there is plentiful greenery and stunning views. It is this natural beauty of Scotland environment that makes me proud to be Scottish.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I found these years pretty difficult, changing from being a child into a teenager was hard especially. Moving from primary to secondary school was a huge test. I was much taller than all the other boys and girls and some people picked on this attribute, making me very self conscious. I did however, have a group of very close friends and family and overall I had a pleasant upbringing.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I learned that even when times get tough and you fall low, keep on fighting to fulfill your dreams because one day you will realize that it was all worth it in the end.

What is your most memorable moment?
When I was 17 I won the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition in London. I was shocked that I had managed to come first out of 10,000 entrants. This launched my modeling career which I have loved ever since.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
To reduce the use of plastic bags in the UK retail industry. I choose this as it is something that I am involved in on a daily basis. I do consume products but it is more to do with the fact that I see the wastage of plastic bags on a daily basis in my work. People do not realize the damage that they are causing to the environment when they misuse plastic bags. Plastic bags take over 100 years to degrade and damage our world’s oceans and the animals within these oceans. Also making and transporting these billions of plastic bags has a profound effect on the by environment adding to air pollution. I propose to encourage everyone to own a eco-friendly bag, and to promote it by introducing a loyalty scheme in John lewis. I also want to introduce recycling points throughout stores where customers can replace their old plastic bags and for John Lewis to come up with a new way of disposing these which would be more environmentally friendly.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
To promote sustainable energy I think we need to start right at the beginning. First of all we have to re-educate people on the damage we are causing to the environment. People are unaware of the amount of energy they use on a day to day basis. We need to make the message clear of what the damage is and what this will escalate to if we do not make the change. I feel this would be a hard hitting message. First of all, gain people’s attention, then show the solutions and make them aware of the benefits of using sustainable energy resources.

BIO:
Age: 24
Height: 5'7.5"
Weight: 110lbs.
Vital Stats: 35"-24"-35"
Hometown: Moscow
Profession: Civil Service Financier

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
Scientists connect ozone disappearance in the atmosphere with the emission of industrial chemicals. Production and use of them has almost completely stopped at the moment. It is a result of the signing at the convention about protection of the ozone layer 20 years ago. At last international community is becoming active and taking action and starting to patch it up. As far as I know, if all countries adhere to a plan of ozone layer protection, the earth will have a well preserved ozone in about 40-50 years, which will enable our children not to be afraid of the murderous ultraviolet radiation. So according to this convention all of us should just sit and wait till precious ozone restores? This is great, but there are interactive methods for its preservation. Some scientist for these purposes suggested creation of factories on ozone production and then delivering it to the atmosphere by planes. Another option is the creation of balloons equipped with lasers that have to be charged from the solar panels and use the oxygen for producing ozone. However, the most realistic solution in this situation is the reduction of deforestation and the increase of green plantations. And it is so easy! Even small children understand the importance of forests. But we wait when the great minds and powers will come to this conclusion. And while they are coming to it young and active people should take care of the earth.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
I have always been proud of the country in which I live. I can't imagine myself without it. My country – that's all I have, all people that I love, are all that is dear to me. My Russia – it is bright, warm, patched, but it is so pleasant to slumber under it in a winter evening when the storm rages outside. My Russia – it is a beautiful stately girl, full-blooded, rosy, in embroidered Sarafan, with long and thick plait, in which multicolored fillets are twisted, a beautiful fairytale girl. My Russia – it is a kind cow with very big eyes, funny horns and always chewing its mouth oh, what sweet milk she gives! Oh, how it smells – meadow herbs and the sun. But my Russia – it is also my poor long, suffering country, mercilessly torn to pieces by greedy, dishonest, unbelieving people. My Russia – it is a great artery, from which the "chosen" few people draining away its wealth. My Russia is a beggar. My Russia cannot help her elderly and orphans. From it, bleeding, like from sinking ship, engineers, doctors, teachers are fleeing, because they have nothing to live on. My Russia – it is an endless caucasian war. These are the embittered brother nations who formerly spoke in the same language, and who now prohibit teaching of it in their schools. My Russia – it is a winner which has overthrown fascism but bought the victory at the expense of lives of millions of people. How, tell me, how and why does the nationalism prosper in this country? My dear, poor Russia. And you still live, breathe, and you gave to the world your beautiful and talented children Esenin, Pusbkin, Plisetskaya. The list could be continued on several pages, and each is gold, a gift, a miracle. I am happy to be your citizen. Russia! In spite of all tears, sorrows, wars, invasions, no matter who rules Russia, I am still proud to be born in this great and beautiful country that has given so much to the world over the years of its existence. I am proud of my motherland for mercy, for heroism, for courage, for diligence, for heritage that she leaves to the world, for people who can live for others. I believe that each person living in Russia should identify himself with it. Feel the participation and take a proactive stance whatever it concerns. There are moments to which we close eyes and reject as spoiling a look. Everyday we meet the facts that are unpleasant to us, that are unworthy of our homeland. Only we can improve the situation. We must learn to express ourselves and to show our best quality traits. We should try not to live only as consumers, but to develop ourselves, read books, listen to interesting music, and be interested in scientific achievements. Politics, to communicate with good people, develop creativity, bringing into this world something new. We should bring up our children and talk to them on spiritual topics, disclose their talents and only then we reject everything unnecessary, affected and pretentious. When we seriously begin to take care of our country, it will blossom and shine brightly.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I was born in a simple soviet family, mom – an economist, my father – engineer. They met at their first year in college in the ballroom dancing studio and danced together. After five years they got married. My granpa was a professor of economic sciences and my grandmother, the candidate of economic science. Throughout their life, having worked since high school, they have managed to instill in me great love for books and thirst for knowledge. In my family we used to read and paint. I grew up in an atmosphere of love and warmth. My strong character was developed in the family that is why I don't break under the pressure of an aggressive environment.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Even in my youth, I felt I had huge potential. If I do something, I do it well. Life has taught me to trust and rely only on myself. I manage to fill up my day as work in the office and on television, participate in charitable projects, numerous photo shoots, interviews and work in the WWF and involving in actions that defend nature.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My project for the protection of the environment is a documentary film about alternative energy sources in Russia. In particular I look at solar energy and its use in different parts of my country. We paid great attention to the process of shooting and tried to reflect all the problems of solar energy in Russia and the way to improve the situation and innovations in the industry. This video was widely disseminated and publicized both in Russia and abroad.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
As the theme of my report and film was solar energy, I can say that solar parks should work on all continents, reducing emissions from traditional power generation and providing electricity to remote areas. There should be solutions to automate the entire chain of transformation of solar energy into electricity. For this purpose, the best technology should be used to meet the specific geographic conditions. Depending on solar activity in a particular area photovoltaic panels, solar concentrators or industry focus mirror with steam generators should be used. The government should provide maximum efficiency and reliability of solar parks.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:

Aisha Valy

Miss Earth Reunion 2012

BIO:
Age: 21
Height: 5'8.5"
Weight: 110lbs.
Vital Stats: 32"-26"-35"
Hometown: Entre-Deux

INTERVIEW:

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I remember that when I was 8, I was very shy but at the same time I was full of life. I have been always curious about the world around me, and at that time my mother told me that I asked too many questions for my age, that I was too young to understand and that one day I would be able to understand. When I was 11 years old I was afraid to go to middle school but finally everything has gone well and I have made friends. At 13 it was particularly difficult because I went through a teenage crisis. I was feeling anxious but I don’t know exactly why. In short, I had a happy childhood and a good education.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
During my childhood and my growing years I learned one important thing; that nothing can replace the love of a family. I think that family is the most important thing in the world. On the other hand because you share everything with them, you share your sadness, your anger aside from your joy. And it’s a priority to spend a lot of time with people the you love, and its also important to have education in the children’s life. I had the chance to grow up with a loving family who supported me in all my choices, and the love we give to them will be same one we must give to mother earth because without earth we lose everything.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment was when I won the title of Miss Earth Reunion Island and had the chance to be crowned by Olga Alava, Miss Earth 2011. It was a moment of joy and I still cannot realize that it happened. But the most important was that my family was there to support me.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmetal advocacy is to alert people about the Pacific Ocean “Garbage Patch”, also describe as the Pacific Trash Vortex, which is threatening to become one of the great ecological disasters of our time. In fact, plastic constitutes about 90% of all trash floating in the world’s oceans. More than 18,500 pieces per km2 of plastic marine debris affect at least 267 species worldwide. Some of these long-lasting plastics end up in the stomachs of marine birds and fishes. Many of these fishes are then consumed by humans, resulting in their ingestion of toxic chemicals. Considering this ecological disaster we urgently need to develop a campaign in order to highlight the damage garbage is doing to our waterways, marine life and oceans, and to rescue marine biodiversity in the most effective way. We need to defend our oceans because without them life on Earth cannot exist.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
To promote sustainable energy my tip is to develop alternative sources of energy such as hydroelectricity, solar energy, wind energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, and tidal energy. These are natural, ecological and not dangerous types of energy in contrast, for example, with nuclear power plants which release radioactivity very harmful to the whole planet. Furthermore, this sustainable provision of energy meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Miss Earth Poland 2012

BIO:
Age: 20
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 110lbs.
Vital Stats: Measurements: 33"-23"-35"
Hometown: Poznan
Profession: Model

INTERVIEW:

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
In Poland there are many things that I'm proud of. Firstly, Poland as a country has overcome many problems throughout history. I believe that we are one of the most courageous nations. The Poles have proven this courage especially in the Battle of Britain in 1940 and in Monte Cassino in 1944. I am proud that in critical moments, the Poles were able to unite and after all those painful experiences Poland still appears on the map of Europe. We have been shaping our history for many years. Poland has many well-known and respected artists and scientists. Polish mathematicians were the ones who decoded the Enigma code. Our Polish Nobel Prize winners such as Maria Sklodowska-Curie, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Wladyslaw Rejmont, Czeslaw Milosz and others, were among the most influential and important people in the world of literature, science and art. We cannot forget the brilliant musician Frederic Chopin as well. Among the very important people are Lech Walesa - a founder of Solidarity and Pope John Paul II, known worldwide as one who valued the good and peace above all. Poland is a country with many traditions. In each region has its own, unique culture. In the north of Poland are the beautiful Polish sea and beaches, in the center of Poland are the amazing lakes, plains, highlands that leads down to the magical mountains in the south. The scenic landscapes and rich culture were the reason Poland was made the host country for Euro 2012. In each of the host towns, the visitors experience the diverse traditions and customs. Many tourists love my country for the Polish hospitality and cuisine it offers. They value Polish dishes such as stew, pork chops, soup, great bread, delicious sausages and before all the dumplings. Moreover, I am proud of our Polish education. Although Poland is not one of the richest countries, we have very good colleges and universities, where everyone regardless of age or views can be educated. Even foreigners come to study at Polish universities, not only because it is cheap, but we have very well-designed schools and great teachers who live up to the high standard of education. Polish professionals are given international accreditation. Poland is a country full of magical places, filled with monuments of hidden secrets, beautiful landscapes, mysterious forests, meadows and rivers. These amazing places are our natural wealth. In Poland, to commune with nature you only need to go a few kilometers out of town. You will find many species of animals and plants that almost went extinct in Western European countries. Many tourists are impressed with our more natural habitat for fauna and flora that allows better understanding of the wildlife. We are proud to promote our national parks, forests or wilderness. All these make me feel good about my country and I am convinced that after visiting Poland many tourists will want to come back.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
When I was young I used to live in Nowa Sól, this is a small city west of Poland. I was very active and sociable. I liked school and gaining new knowledge. I was very curious of the world so my parents were always overwhelmed with my questions (about everything). For me there were no stupid questions! At that time, my parents had the biggest influence on me. They taught me a healthy lifestyle and showed me how to get through my adult life the right way.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
My childhood was filled with love thanks to my family. I am grateful to my parents for giving me everything necessary to grow up. I believe that education is essential and that every child should have an access to it. I’m glad to have participated in many educational activities. I have learned how a good organization works and realize that only through hard work can you achieve your dreams.

What is your most memorable moment?
I think that it is very difficult question. In spite of my age, I have had many memorable moments in my life. One of them is definitely my high school graduation and the beginning of my adult life in Poznań. This was the time when I was left alone to cope in a totally new place. For me, this was a turning point in my life, which influenced and strengthened my character.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
It’s an honor for me to have been chosen to represent Poland in the MISS EARTH pageant. I believe it would be a one-of-a-kind experience which I will treasure a lot.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
There are a lot of things we can do for our environment, but the best thing we can actually do is to promote environmental awareness to our people, and especially to our children who are our future. Turn off your lights at home when not in use. Opt for the electric fan when it is not too warm instead of the AC. Walk!

Ana Lorena Ibanez - Miss Earth Panama 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Panama Ana Lorena Ibañez

Ana Lorena Ibañez

Miss Earth Panama 2012

BIO:
Age: 26
Height: 5'8.5"
Weight: 120lbs.
Vital Stats: 35"-26"-36"
Hometown: Penonome
Profession: Assistant Manager
Notes: 4th run-up in Reina Hispanoamericana 2012

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I am very attached to the place I was born in and so many of my ancestors have lived, worked and moved on to a better life. Therefore, my environmental project is centered on my province. My work with the national company which distributes water to the whole county has made me aware of how potable water is being wasted. Therefore I want to bring alternatives to my province, mainly in how to use the abundant rains which we have for nine months of the year for different tasks that do not require potable water: cleaning, gardening, washing and others.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
Panama is a small country with only 3.5 million inhabitants. Its life as a republic is also recent as it gained its independence in 1903. But, in this short time, Panama has established itself as an international transport center, with different local and international airlines and more than 6,000 merchant ships with the Panamanian flag. Panama is also a dynamic financial center and its Free Zone is the second largest in the world and the largest in America. Visitors, investors and residents are welcome as we have so much to offer: not only our tropical forests abundant in plants and animals but also our beautiful beaches on both the Pacific and the Atlantic sides. If you are in a shopping mood, you will find goods from all across the world and at good prices. If you are attracted to nightlife, we have our casinos, restaurants with local and international cuisine, places where you can dance nonstop to the Latin beat. We also offer our museums, and our Canal which is now being expanded and admired for its intricate engineering. Panama, as a crossroad of the world, has attracted so many people that Panamanians as of today are a rich blend of races which has produced unique individuals who are proud but hospitable, hardworking but passionate about the culture, enthusiastic about the future but recognizes the abundance of resources that our Mother Earth has given us.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
My growing up years were filled with happiness among my parents, sisters and grandparents who lived next door. We had a big yard with lots of trees and plants. I remember our visits to my grandfather’s farm in La Pintada where I would go horseback riding and eat my fill of mangoes and oranges. My sisters and I felt very important because we were given the task of feeding the newborn calves. We were a healthy, harmonious family where all the adults taught us good manners, the virtue of hard work and the importance of giving thanks for all we had.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
My grandfather was the head of the family and he was loved and respected by all. He taught me by example the need to fight and even make sacrifices to obtain my goals in life. He used to tell us that nothing was for free in this life and the harder we worked the nearer we were to reaching our goals. He would add that the obstacles that were in our path and our occasional failures should only make us persevere until the diploma was in our hands or until the job was completed or in my case, until the crown is on my head.

What is your most memorable moment?
Although it is a very sad memory, my most memorable moment was when my grandfather whom all his grandchildren called “Payayo” was in his last moments. He gathered all his grandchildren around him, told us how he loved us all and that he would always be with us deep within our hearts. He also added that he was certain that we would all become responsible and loving adults. I have shared all my joys, achievements and triumphs with him because he was the most lasting influence in my life.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmental advocacy is to help my community achieve a rational use of water. As Panama has been blessed with many rivers, there is a tendency to pilfer water and potable water is used for everything. By using up to 60% of rain water for our necessities, we would not use water sparingly on plants. My work as Assistant Manager at the Water distribution national office has made me aware of this growing problem.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Conservation is the operative word. Let us conserve all our resources which we have inherited from our forebears and which we must pass on to future generations.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I was born in a rural environment and very near the earth without being fully conscious of how we much we depended on it to survive. Winning the Miss Earth crown has opened my eyes to the problems we are facing. I recall my idyllic years within a tropical forest with all kinds of farm animals, and I have witnessed the devastation caused when Mother Earth is not cared for properly: floods, death of animals, loss of resources, poverty and hunger. This crown is a responsibility and I consider it my duty to work towards a greater awareness of the damage in our environment.

Working alongside the United Nations, I can create a project called “Project S.A.V.E.” which combines and embodies sustainable development through education on the deterioration that air pollution inflicts upon our environment and our earth as a whole. This would be done with the help and collaboration of The United Nation Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to create objectives that will lead to the creation of water resources that are reliably sustainable. What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I learned that family is your number one support. My family has always been there for me. Coming to America was a difficult transition in itself and that is what truly brought out the importance of family in my life. I learned that no matter where you are in life those values that your family cultivates in you will remain with you wherever you go and they will always be with you no matter the distance. Till this day I find this to be true. No matter where I am I always feel the love and support of my family.

What is your most memorable moment?
Winning Miss Earth Pakistan 2012 by far has been the most memorable moment of my life. I feel as if I have accomplished one of the goals that I have set for myself. Miss Earth Nicaragua 2012

BIO:
Age: 25
Height: 5'7.5"
Weight: 120lbs.
Vital Stats: 33"-25"-37"
Hometown: Rio San Juan
Profession: Television Host

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
The project I propose would be the development of Low Potency Wind Turbines for home use. One of the economical activities that puts more pressure over our natural resources and the environment in general it’s the production of energy. Nowadays it is estimated that more of the 85% of produced energy globally comes from fossil fuels, bringing with it damage to the environment without precedents. This is the cause of global warming. Another source of energy that is considered "renewable" and "environmentally sustainable", is energy from water sources which represents approximately 8% of global energy production, however this form of energy production is not without generating controversy because of the direct environmental impact on natural resources, mainly forests, biodiversity and soils. In Nicaragua a viable and feasible alternative would be solar and wind power. Nicaragua has great potential for power generation based on both resources.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
What makes me feel more proud about my country is the idiosyncrasy and originality that prevails within the people. In here we can find peace, values, culture folklore, diversity and a lot of green within its cities. It prides me that our people are capable of valuing what they have and take care of it. Faith and hope are what boosts them to become better and better each day even with the lack of economy support and attention from the world. People are concerned in taking care of and maintaining the country’s traditions, without delaying progress and modernization, but adapting a growth slow but steady. We put emphasis on highlighting our beautiful natural resources and take use the healthiest advantage for the country. Its not a country invaded by modernization, technology nor horizontal growth. It has learned how to grow from the ashes through its many richess that makes it unique for tourism. The diversity of my country is so unique like the love I feel as a Nicaraguan for my country.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I was born in a village south of Nicaragua, Rio San Juan. I did not spend much time with my dad since his work made him stay abroad most of his time. My mother raised us alone. My brother and I used to study at a catholic school until age 12. I learned how to swim there. I remember the evenings of my town where you could see roses from almost any part of the village. You could also see the river San Juan and the Lake of Nicaragua. We use boats for transport to travel between villages “Castle” “Solentiname archipelago” Wherever we go fishing with my father, I used to play a lot with my cousins. The environment where I grew up was not the most favorable and that really influenced me differently so now you know why I try to change and be a better person living one day at a time. At the age of 12 my whole family emigrated to the capital, Managua, where we graduated from college.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Several experiences taught me values and ideals which I still have. Some were bad and ugly and sometimes a bit nicer, but I learned something positive out of all these. In my childhood I learned the respect for elders, the sacrifice of father and mother for her children, and the importance of family unit. I learned that people can be cruel and evil, and that a low self-esteem can cause bad experiences but not make you resentful. Along with my cousins I learned to do good deeds no matter how large and that most gratification or reward comes from the feeling of doing good deeds because you want to do it without expecting anything in return but only the welfare of that person. I learned that people shouldn’t be exploited, the importance of caring for oneself, and the effects that low self-esteem has in your whole life. I learned that alcoholism is a disease and not everyone has the courage to face it, but mostly now I realize that no matter how bad or good we are we still live out some or few values we learned in our childhood. What matters is that we strive for a healthier life and learn from it. Change what is negative now for no one can make a change in us but ourselves. With good values, actions and thoughts, strive to live a better life. Life must be lived to also learn the value of the power of love. Learn to love yourself and others with honesty.

What is your most memorable moment?
My first job. There is so much I learned from it that changed my life. Having more responsibilities, made me appreciate time more, and be more dedicated and try to be better every day. What I liked the most was the people I met. I learned to be more sociable, and appreciate things more. I thank God for every person that he put in my way, but especially those who come as angels and make changes to one’s life and make one a better person. Also a memorable day for me is the day I met that person who has taught me much of life. I thank him for his words, feelings and dedication to help me live a better life.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
The global need for energy for development is important, but limited due to the huge negative impact on the environment and especially on natural resources, so it is important to propose and make known to the public new technologies that allow energy independence. The WIND HOME OF LOW POWER, are wind systems that can be made with household materials and are inexpensive. Today our country has specialized staff to transfer this knowledge to the population in rural areas, so that they can seize and benefit from these advances. The project have three basic components for development and these are: Methodological Component (Construction of step by step guides for the construction of wind turbines), Component Training (workshops to make the most of the tools developed in the methodological component to create and strengthen the cognitive abilities of the target group in this issue) and Component Technology Development (Once developed the tools and trained personnel proceed to build wind turbines with local materials), all this together will help reduce energy needs in rural areas, improve their quality of life and reduce the pressure on natural resources. I also choose to campaign for combined reforestation campaigns, solid waste disposal and environmental education.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
Mainly turn off lights whenever not in use. We must use the natural light and look for alternatives like solar panels for electricity.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
Availability, responsibility, discipline, effort, learning and teaching is what I go for as Miss Earth 2012. I would change how the world sees Nicaragua as a green alternative of the world for its large number of forests and as an example to small and large nations as Nicaragua works towards 2017 to achieve 95% dependency on green energy. I would travel wherever necessary to set an example, support causes, and learn everything that I need to be better every day as Miss Earth. I shall work towards all these goals with joy, make the most of the experience and become a future president of the environmental youth club to which I belong as a volunteer. This will give me most especially the satisfaction that I did something that I love with all my heart.

Gloria Blake - Miss Earth New Zealand 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 New Zealand Gloria Blake

Gloria Blake

Miss Earth New Zealand 2012

BIO:
Age: 20
Height: 5'8"
Hometown: Auckland
Profession: Student

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
The environmental project I am aiming on establishing is based on the education of children and youth so that younger generations can understand the importance of maintaining and conserving the planet. This project will work with government organizations to collectively agree on environmental issues that are a priority on a national and international scale. These issues will be developed into a presentation and delivered to various schools to promote the need for conservation and sustainability. Coupling the presentation will be the implementation of one of two options; a modified board game based on the native garden project concept. Secondly, fruit and vegetable gardens to provide schools with a sustainable food supply in low socio-economic areas. The idea of native gardens is based on the knowledge that in towns and cities within New Zealand many of our native birds have retreated from these hubs. By planting native trees, it gives these birds homes, food supply, and reintroduces society to the wonders of New Zealand. By having a native garden built around the concept of modified board games, such as snakes and ladder’s or knots and crosses. This makes the experience interactive enjoyable to children, while learning about the environment and hopefully increasing levels of participation. The idea of fruit and vegetable gardens is based on the necessity of several issues that face society. Giving a low socio-economic school the chance to aid in reducing CO2 emissions by planting extra trees teaches students how to be productive in gardening, creating healthier food options for students and at the same time allowing these students to have a free food at school. The project allows modern youth to gain an understanding of the environment they live in. by educating those who are young it creates in them habits that are ecologically friendly in an early stage. To me power is knowledge, if you know that you can make a change by planting trees and educating other’s then this is a simple task with amazing global impact. I believe it is also important to combine several underlying aspects to a single project. Having a project that is easy to promote to people of different walks of life makes it easier to implement.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
Although I come from a big family I was separated from my siblings and raised by my grandmother from age 6 to 12. After my parents divorced my father took my five older sisters back to Fiji and consequently my Mother who suffers from bipolar disease went through a rough time. My childhood was pleasant enough. I have fond memories growing up with my grandmother and visiting my mother, whom I love dearly. However, being one of the older cousins I spent a lot of time helping my grandmother to raise other grandchildren. Growing up together with my cousins and my family, I felt that my situation left me feeling somewhat out of place. I know that as a child I was shy and at time mischievous. I remember having difficulty at school in getting along with other classmates. I had one teacher, Mrs. Robinson, who really believed in me and with her help I went on to become a leader in my primary and intermediate school. At 12, I returned to live with my mom, it was a decision my grandmother let me make. For next few years though I was at times my mother’s caregiver and rock, due to her disorder. Despite of what my family have said about my mother in the past, a mother is still a mother, and to this day I love and defend her.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
1. How to look out for others.
2. The importance of elders and utilizing their knowledge while they are around to give it.
3. How to survive on my own but also the importance of asking help when you need it.
4. The biggest thing would have to be respect. Respect for yourself, others and everything around you.

What is your most memorable moment?
It would have to be my mum telling me she was proud of me for winning Miss Earth NZ 2012. It is very hard for my mother to express herself. Before that night I had only seen my mother cry once, when I was taken from her at six years old. For her to tell me she is proud and express her vulnerability is something rare and truly memorable to me.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmental advocacy is the prime ministers Christchurch Earthquake appeal. In 2011, Christchurch, a major city in the south island of New Zealand was struck by an earthquake. In a country like New Zealand, which is small in land mass and population size, it was hard when chaos struck strike home. I, like many other New Zealander, have family living in Christchurch. The devastation that occurred that day struck the entire country and I want to be able to support those, that to this day are still affected by what happened over a year ago. It seems though, that in recent times the destructive forces of nature seem to be a prevalent occurrence compared to the past. As a means to raise awareness and knowledge of what humans are doing to the planet, I am advocating the prime ministers Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
All of us are guilty of leaving our chargers, iPods, laptops, ghds and other electrical gadgets plugged in during the day and overnight. Even when they are not turned on, they consume a lot of energy, it is best to unplug when not in use to save power.

Shauny Bult - Miss Earth Netherlands 2012 Profile

Miss Earth 2012 Netherlands Shauny Bult

Shauny Bult

Miss Earth Netherlands 2012

BIO:
Age: 21
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 134lbs.
Vital Stats: 34"-24"-37"
Hometown: Boxtel
Profession: Built Environment Student

INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
Currently I am studying for my Bachelor of Build Environment. So my dream is, after I finish school, I can develop environmental friendly buildings and build these buildings the environmental way.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
I am proud of the water management in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is known for their brilliant technology of water management. A nickname for the Netherlands is Land of Water. Three-fourths of our country is below sea level. We constantly improve the quality of our dikes. The combination of dikes and water create chances for green energy. Keeping the water clean is another Dutch priority. Even our crown prince Willem Alexander studied Water management at the University of Leiden. He is married to princess Maxima and with her Latina roots coming from Argentina many of our Dutch people see her as example as she is also involved in many projects for children and a better environment.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
I grew up in a warm and lovely family. I have one brother who has always has been my best friend. My parents tell me almost every day that they love me and that they are so proud of me. I have always been daddy’s little princess. As a kid I loved to play tennis. Tennis was my life. Me and my team became the champions of the South Netherlands when I was 12. I was the captain at that time. The next year I got injured (kids rheumatism) and that was the end of my tennis dreams. I am glad to tell you that it has no consequences in my health today. My cure was time. At primary school I was busy being a child. I liked to play in the woods and other activities. I wasn’t a Nintendo kid. At secondary school I was sick often, but I wanted a diploma so bad. I chose Economics and Society and graduated in 2009.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Life is a blessing and the same with being healthy. We have the opportunity to have certain privileges such as a house made of stone with good materials. We have a good health care. Good health is one of the major priorities which make life a lot easier. I am blessed to have such great and loving parents and brother. They make me proud. I am also grateful for having this life. I’m privileged for being healthy at this moment. I know how it feels when you’re always sick and in pain. So I would like to send courage and good health to people all over the world. When I look around the world is see that there are many people that are not as privileged as I am. We need to take care of the people who need our help.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment was my prom. I felt so pretty, proud and happy that I got my diploma. All my beloved ones were there. It was the first time I had to wear an evening grown. And I promised myself at that moment that this wasn’t the last time I had to wear one.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
I believe that it is important to invest in solar, wind and water energy. We have the duty to take care of Mother Earth. Our children and their children have the right to live in a green and healthy planet. My dream is to live in a neutral energy world.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
That all governments should invest in solar, wind and water energy. These types of energy won’t harm Mother Earth.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
Last year my brother had a car accident. He had to stay at the intensive care for three days. This accident opened my eyes. And I enjoy living life everyday and I am very excited to participate in Miss Earth 2012.
