Lourdes Figueroa was crowned Miss Guatemala 2009

20-year old model and student from Guatemala City, Lourdes Figueroa was crowned Miss Guatemala Universe 2009 during an event held at the Gran Tikal Futura Expocenter on May 25. She will travel to Nassau, Bahamas to compete at the Miss Universe 2009 Pageant to be held on August 23.

Meanwhile, Angelica Guevara from San Marcos was named Miss Guatemala World and will compete representing her country at the Miss World 2009 Contest at Johannesburg, South Africa later this December.

But the event was affected by a major scandal: Jennifer Chiong (Miss Guatemala 2008) who had been dethroned last December -for her inability to perform her duties- showed up at the event, uninvited, wearing her sash and crown, and bringing an audio track with her "farewell speech".

Chiong interrupted the event when she took the stage by storm during the performance of musical guest Carlos Peña (winner of Latin American Idol 2007). The audience and guests could not understand what was happening, and pageant directors removed her from the stage.



Afterwards, a brawl took place inside the venue, where journalists filmed and photographed the whole ordeal. Chiong took the stage again and grabbed the microphone to try to discredit the pageant organization. The contestants had to leave the stage and the scandal lasted for about an hour, until Chiong was removed from the premises.

Miss Guatemala 2009 Official Candidates

Egypt's representative to Miss Universe 2009 Pageant

Elham Wagdi is the new representative of Egypt at the Miss Universe 2009 Contest to be held at the Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas on August 23. She is 25-year old dancer, painter, and aerobics instructor from Cairo.

Elham stands 1.75m tall and was 1st run-up in Miss Egypt 2005 Pageant. She also competed in Miss Earth and Miss Intercontinental in the previous years.

Laura Valenti won Miss Universe Italy Pageant

Edged out other 23 lovely contestants, Laura Valenti won the Miss Universe Italy 2009 Contest held at the Palariccione, in Riccione, Italy. She will travel to Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas to compete for the Miss Universe 2009 on August 23.

Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 is Kiara Sherman

The host delegate for Miss Universe 2009 to be held in Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas on August 23 is Kiara Sherman, 25 years of age.

Crowned as Miss Earth Bahamas 2009 and the 1st run-up was the 20 year old, Ife Bethel Sears. She will travel to Manila, Philippines to compete for the Miss Earth 2009 Contest.

And the 2nd run-up and Miss Bahamas International 2009 is Amanda Appleyard. She is 19 years old and will compete in Miss International 2009 to be held in Macau, China.

Joahanna Mariel Lasic won Miss Universe Argentina 2009

Joahanna Mariel Lasic was named Miss Universe Argentina 2009 in a beauty pageant held at the Salon de las Americas in NH Hotel Provincial in Mar del Plata. She was crowned by the reigning Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela. Joahanna Mariel will travel to the beautiful islands of Nassau, Bahamas on August 23 to compete for the Miss Universe 2009 Contest.

Close to the title was the 1st run-up Gretel Venecia Otto while Gisela Melisa Berger Villa was the 2nd run-up.

Miss Iceland 2009 is Guorun Dogg Runarsdottir

Guorun Dogg Runarsdottir won the title of Miss Iceland 2009 (Ungfru Island) in a beauty pageant held at Broadway, in Reykjavik. She is 18 years old and from Vesturland. Gourun will represent Iceland in Miss World 2009 Pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 12.

The 1st runner-up was Magdalena Dubik, while the 2nd runner-up was Sylvia Dagmar Friojonsdottir.

Miss Hungary (A Kiralyno) 2009 Winners

21 year old Orsi Serdult was crowned as the new Miss Hungary 2009 or locally known as "A Kiralyno" last May 21 in a beauty pageant held in Budapest. She stands 1.75m tall. Orsi will compete at the Miss World 2009 contest in Johannesburg, South Africa, next December.

Zsuzsa Budai was named as Miss Hungary Universe 2009. She is 21 years old and stands 1.81m tall. Zsuzsa is half-Jamaican and works as a model. She will travel to the beautiful island of Nassau, Bahamas to compete for the Miss Universe 2009 Contest on August 23.

Representing Hungary at the Miss Earth 2009 Pageant in Manila, Philippines is the 18-year old Korinna Kocsis.

Miss World Italy (Miss Mondo Italia) 2009 Contestants

Miss World Italy 2009 or locally known as Miss Mondo Italia 2009 Pageant will take place on July 13 and will telecast live on Star TV. The winner will be the new representative of Italy at the Miss World 2009 Contest to be held in London and Johannesburg, South Africa. Claudia Russo, Miss World Italy 2008 will crown her successor and take her final walk during the final event.
