Miss World 2007, Zilin Zhang is the new face of Pepsi
Miss World 2007, Zilin Zhang has been announced as the new face and official spokesperson for Pepsi, with a starring role in their latest advertising campaign. The commercial, a futuristic update of the classic Chinese tale ‘Journey to the West’, was shot on location in the sand dunes of Dunhuang. Zilin Zhang appears in the role of Zhizhu Jing, the Spider Queen, starring alongside famous Hong Kong actor Louis Koo, Chinese film star Huang Xiaoming, and Taiwanese singing sensations Show Lo and Jolin Tsai.
During a press conference in Beijing to unveil the new campaign, Zilin and her co-stars appeared on stage dressed as their characters, and they praised her for her performance and style. The press event featured magic tricks, dance performances and special effects, while the advert itself is just as action-packed: the four intrepid heroes of the story travel through the desert in a dune buggy, only to encounter Zilin at the controls of a giant mechanical spider.
Zilin spoke of the shoot: “I was really attracted to a modern version of ‘Journey to the West’, and I never thought I would have the opportunity to participate in such a role. It was challenging and different, but I felt I improved my acting as the filming progressed, which made me very happy. I couldn’t even recognise myself with the make-up I was wearing for the part, but I really liked it, and I was honoured to be part of it. I hope everyone likes the new version of the Spider Queen that I play!”
