INTERVIEW:

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
My project will focus on the reduction of greenhouse gases through the utilization of renewable energy resources such as solar and the benefits associated with it. In addition I will be promoting easy ways that we can do everyday to help reduce our carbon footprint.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
Fiji is our little piece of paradise. As a marine science student I am very proud to say the ocean that we study is in our backyard. Fiji is not only rich in biodiversity but also in cultural heritage and tradition. To promote the islands of Fiji I would say, you have to drink Fiji, you have to use pure Fiji products and you have to watch Fiji rugby players. Now is the time experience the wonderful nature and people Fiji has to offer. Fiji not only beats white sandy beaches, clear blue skies, and beautiful ocean views. Fiji however has one other treasure that separates them from all the other island nations. There reason why Fiji people are called the friendliest people in the world is with our warm smiles, relaxed atmosphere, serene environment and great food. It is no a wonder why the phrase was coined “Fiji the way, the world should be”. In a time when nature is being taken for granted, I believe Fiji is the place to be, to be able to experience the beauty of nature in the midst of it all. It is this treasure we are trying to uphold.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I care for them as best as I could but eventually they passed away. Thus I was left to wonder that if even with great care death was inevitable why then do animals have to live in the world? Why is their habitat is being taken for granted?

What is your most memorable moment?
It is difficult to choose just one, so here are three
1. Visiting the Sydney Aquarium
2. Rescuing a baby sea snake with Dad
3. Feeding giraffes at the Toronga Zoo.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
Our Earth is in danger in more ways than one. I promote and am involved in sustainable farming, conservation activities: Clean up campaigns and recycling. However since renewable energy source is the theme for Miss Earth this year I have decided to focus on renewable energy initiatives. These include wind generated, solar and hydro energy which are safe sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to kerosene lanterns which are what most remote villages in Fiji use

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
“USE SOLAR”. It is efficient, inexpensive, environmental friendly and safe. All you need is a solar panel, battery, connective words and LED lights.
