Nicosia Lawson wins Miss Cayman Islands 2008 - 2009

Miss District of George Town Nicosia Lawson wins the Miss Cayman Islands Beauty Pageant for the year 2008-2009 held at the Lions Centre. Nicosia is sponsored by the Cayman Islands Development Bank. She is 25 years old and will represent the Islands at the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 12 and also at the 2009 Miss Universe Beauty Contest.

The 1st runner-up title was given to Danielle Ebanks and she was sponsored by Island Styles Car Rental Ltd. While the 2nd runnner-up was Rachel King, sponsored by Kirk Freeport Ltd.

Seychelles' Candidate to Miss World 2008

Elena Angione (center) beated out 16 other lovely contestants as she was crowned the new Miss Seychelles Islands 2008 in a beauty pageant held at Victoria. Elena is 22 years of age and she's a native from Glacis, Mahe. She is the Personal Assistant of the General Manager of Le Meridien Barbadons Hotel. Elena enjoys reading and writing as her hobbies. She will now represent the Islands at the Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest on December 12 this year to be held at Johannesburg, South Africa.

Declared as the 1st runner-up in the competition is the lovely Praslinois Sophia Marie (left), a 20 year-old stunner who hails from Anse Bois de Rose, Praslin Island. She is a receptionist and cashier at the Coco de Mar Hotel. Praslinios' hobbies includes reading, athletics and swimming.

The 2nd runner-up title was given to the 21 year-old Nathalie Domingue (right) from Reef estate Au Cap. Nathalie is a student at the National Institute of Education. She enjoys reading and playing volleyball during her spare time.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
-- My major interest is the study of languages. I truly believe that intercultural knowledge is enhanced by learning foreign languages. As such, I enjoy traveling most of all. I find it easier to adapt to different environments and can utilize my communication skills in different languages. In my leisure time I enjoy getting together with friends most of all, and naturally, going shopping.

What is your career ambition?
-- I hope to graduate in my field of study and I want to do something special with children.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment?
-- Enjoying and maintaining the same quality of relationships with family and friends whilst having the most wonderful set of experiences as an ambassador of my home province and country.

    Johannesburg is the new Host Country of Miss World 2008

    The Ukraine will no longer be the host country for the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant which is scheduled to be happening on October 4 in Kiev as announced by the Miss World Organization. The reason for the change in venue is due to the safety of the candidates since neighbor country Russia could still be at war with Georgia by pageant time.

    Last Sunday August 24, the President of the Miss World Organization Mrs. Julia Morely announced that the new venue of Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest will be in Johannesburg, South Africa. The candidates will start arriving on November 16 and the finals will be held on December 12 to be held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

    Miss World candidates will enjoy a full South African authentic experience and during their 4 week stay will visit many exciting landmarks of South Africa.

    Albania's representative to Miss World 2008

    Egla Harxhi, the 17 year-old who stands 174cm. tall will be the representative of Albania in the Miss World 2008 beauty pageant in October.

    Egla was born and grew up in Tirana, Albania. She plans to study architecture, followed by interior design after graduating high school. She can speak three languages -- Albanian, English and Italian. Egla loves to travel, enjoys playing volleyball, watching movies, reading books, dancing, music and fashion, she also has a special talent in painting.

    She believes in her personal motto: "Not everything that shines is gold!'.

    Pennsylvania Native Is Crowned Mister USA 2008


    A 24 year old native of Meadville, Pennsylvania Ivan Rusilko wins Mister USA 2008 beauty contest at a gala event held at the Lenox Hotel ballroom in Boston. Ivan is a professional model and he won over $20,000 in cash and prizes by winning the competition.

    The candidates competed in 3 rounds of competition -- swimwear, evening wear and interviews. The panel of celebrity judges includes Jacob Hill, Mister USA 2007; Alida D'Agona, Miss Boston 2008; Dana Rosengard, professor of journalism at Suffolk University; Becca Bousquet, the official photographer sponsor; and Alvin Matium, professional make-up artist and pageant coach.

    Newly Crowned Miss Singapore World 2008


    22 year-old Faraliza Tan was crowned the new Miss Singapore World 2008 where she beat out 22 other lovely candidates. Faraliza is an undergraduate of Media & Mass Communication at the Nanyang Technology University of Singapore. She stands 1.75m tall and has a body figure of 82-60-88. She can speak 3 languages -- English, Chinese & Malay. The new Singaporean beauty queen will travel and represent her country at the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant later this October.

    Declared as the 1st Runner up is Katie Kang, a 19 year-old student, while the 2nd runner up was Charlyene Choo, a 22 year-old trainee teacher.

    Katherine Medina is the new Miss World Colombia 2008

    Miss Medellin, Katherine Medina was crowned the new Miss World Colombia 2008 or locally called as Miss Mundo Colombia 2008. She will be the representative of her counrty at the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant later this October.

    Katherine is a 17 year-old student of Accounting at her hometown in Medellin. She was highlighted throughout the entire beauty contest as one of the most charismatic and committed, always having a clear direction the momentum towards the goals of social Miss World Colombia. Her professional expectation is to be cosmetics company, which can exploit her full potential as a professional.

    Natalie Glebova competes in Amazing Race Asia


    Natalie Glebova, Miss Universe 2005 from Canada is joining the famous reality show Amazing Race Asia Season 3 which will premiere in September 11 on AXN. She will be representing Thailand where she won the Miss Universe title and worked after her reign. The 26 year-old Russian Canadian beauty was originally from Tuapse, Russia.

    Natalie will be teamed-up by another beauty queen and her close friend Pailin Rungratanasunthorn which is a native of Thailand and was the first runner up in 2006 Miss Thailand Universe beauty contest and represented her country in Miss Earth beauty pageant in 2006.

    The two beauty queen have met in the 2006 Miss Thailand Universe beauty pageant and become fast friends after that. Pailin was also one of Natalie's bridesmaids when she married Thailand's highest ranked tennis player, Paradorn Srichaphan, in November 2007.

    Pailin describing herself on participating in Amazing Race Asia Season 3, "I am really competitive and I want to do something where I can put my energy in it." Natalie agrees, "We're both very competitive and cannot stand to lose. We love to travel, love to do adrenaline like things, love to experience new cultures and learn."

    These beauties have started preparing for the trek around the world based on what the previous Amazing Race Asia seasons were like. Surprisingly, their strategy for winning is to be the underdog and "fly under the radar". "Let's hope that no one will take us too seriously so we won't be recognized as a threat until it's too late!"

    Miss Poland 2008 is Klaudia Ungerman

    Beating out other 26 beautiful contestants, Klaudia Ungerman was crowned as the new Miss Poland 2008 or locally called as Miss Polski 2008. The beauty contest was livecasted by TV Polsat and reached full attention of 44% of tv viewers audience at the crowning ceremony grand finale and with a live audience of 4,000.

    Klaudia is a 20 year-old Business Administration student. She will be the representative of Poland at the Miss World Beauty Pageant 2008.

    The runners-up will compete Miss Tourism Queen International 2009 and Miss Intercontinental 2008 beauty pageants respectively

    Miss International 2005 launch her own Beauty Pageant

    Philippines' Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman is launching her very own beauty contest together with her fellow beauty queens -- Bb. Pilipinas International 2006 Denille Lou Valmonte, who competed in Miss International 2006 and Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2002 Karen Loren Agustin, who competed in Miss Universe 2002.

    Their beauty pageant was called "Turismo Pilipina" which is a nationwide search for the Filipina beauty who will be the official spokesperson for the Department of Tourism. Turismo Pilipina must promote the beauty and rich cultural heritage and promote the tourist spots and increase the tourism potentials of the Philippines.

    Turismo Pilipina is open to natural-born Filipinas who are eager to contribute to the tourism promotions of the Philippines, and must have the ff. criteria:

    - 18-25 years old
    - at least 5’5
    - Single and never been married or given birth
    - good moral standing
    - possessing beauty of face and figure
    - at least a high school graduate
    - has a good knowledge of Philippine tourism and the Philippines in general

    Brittany Lyons wins Miss Jamaica 2008

    Brittany Lyons was crowned as the new Miss Jamaica 2008 last August 16, 2008 where 16 beautiful candidates competed in the annual beauty pageant. Brittany is a student at the University College of the Caribbean. She's a native of Kingston and stands 1.66 m tall.

    The new Beauty Queen is an avid sportswoman, she has won medals in both swimming and water polo. Brittany is also an artist and loves designing, drawing and sketching. To become a Fashion Marketing Manager and create her own clothing line is her aspiration.

    Brittany will be representing Jamaica at the Miss World 2008 beauty contest later this year.

    The First Runner-Up title was given to Jade Grant while the Second Runner-Up was Marshagay Reynolds.

    Newly Crowned Miss Montenegro 2008

    18 year-old Mariana Mihajlovic was crowned as the new Miss Montenegro 2008 at a beauty pageant held last August 15. Mariana stands 1.80m tall and she will be competing representing Montenegro at the Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest.

    Declared as the 1st runner-up was Ana Jovanovic who stands 1.83 m tall and native of Budva. She will represent the country during the Miss Universe 2009 pageant in May.

    The 2nd runner-up title was given to Ivana Krivokapic.

    Stevi Perry from Arkansas is the new Miss Teen USA 2008

    Last August 16, 2008 at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, Miss Arkansas Teen USA Stevi Lauren Perry was crowned as the new Miss Teen USA 2008. The event was not televised as the Miss Universe Organization has to renew it's contract to NBC for the Miss Teen USA Beauty Pageant.

    "Days of Our Lives" star and former Miss Teen USA 2004 Shelley Hennig joined Seth Goldman of NBC's "Entertainment Buzz" to host the pageant. And musical guest female R&B local sensation TaDa performed to grace the event.

    Panel of judges for this year's competition included: Alina Shriver, Founder of Shriver Art; Farouk Shami, Founder and Chairman Farouk Systems; Heather Kerzner of Kerzner International; Alicia Bridgewater, Bookings Editor at Cosmo Girl Magazine; Duane Gazi, Director of Scouting and Development at Trump Model Management; Eric Parrinello, founder and owner of Bacchanalia Private Dining in Overland Park, Kansas; David Dzanis, Vice President of Coca Cola Client Services at Genesco Sports Enterprises; and Seth Mayeri, Television Talent Veteran.

    During the preliminary competition, all the delegates have competed in 3 areas of competition (swimsuits, evening gowns and interviews). Then in the final night will reveal the top 15 contestants who will compete at the final evening gown and swimsuit competitions:

    Stevi Lauren Perry was shocked when the hosts announced her as the new Miss Teen USA. She was crowned by the last year's winner Hillary Cruz, assisted by the reigning Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart.

    Miss Indonesia 2008 is Zivanna Letisha Serigar

    Zivanna Letisha Serigar representing DKI Jakarta won the Beauty Contest Miss Indonesia 2008 or locally called Puteri Indonesia 2008 held at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center.

    The 19 year old beauty queen will represent her country at the Miss Universe 2009 beauty pageant where incidentally, the reigning Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela attended the event.

    Christa Simmons, a professional model and a college student from Georgetown was crowned as the new Miss Guyana World 2008. She will be representing her country at the Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest.

    Christa is 22 years old and stands 173cm. tall. She also competed at the 2008 Miss Tourism Queen International Beauty Pageant earlier this year.

    Newly Crowned Miss Germany World 2008

    The newly crowned Miss Germany World 2008 or Miss Deutschland 2008 Beauty Pageant stands 171cm. is Anne Katrin Walter who represented as Miss Schleswig-Holstein in that event. She will be the representative of Germany in Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest.

    The 1st run-up was the 23 year-old Miss Thuringen, Josephine Buttner. While declared as the 2nd run-up is Miss Brandenburg Linda Leiste, 18 years of age.

    Malaysia's bet to Miss World 2008

    Crowned as the new Miss Malaysia 2008 is the 23 year old Soo Wincci (center) last August 9 in a beauty contest held in Kuala Lumpur. Soo will represent her country at the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant.

    The 1st runner-up is Cindy Chen (right) while declared as the 2nd runner-up was Shereen Kaur (left).

    The new Miss Saint Lucia World 2008

    22 year old professional model Joy-Ann Biscette was crowned as the new Miss Saint Lucia 2008 and will travel and represent the carribean nation of Saint Lucia in the Miss World 2008 Beauty Contest in Kiev, Ukraine this coming October 4.

    Joy-Ann will be the sixth representative of Saint Lucia in the Miss World Beauty Pageant and will mark the return of Saint Lucia to the international pageant after a one-year hiatus. The last delegate was Tamalisa Baptiste back in 2006.

    Andreia Rodrigues is Miss Portugal World 2008

    Andreia Rodrigues was crowned as the new Miss Mundo Portugal or Miss World Portugal 2008 and she will be the representative of her country at the Miss World 2008 Beauty Pageant to be held in Kiev, Ukraine this coming October 4.

    Andreia stands stunning at 1.77m tall and is a professional model and tv presenter.

    Anun Chinbat is Miss Mongolia 2008

    23-year old Anun Chinbat was crowned Miss Mongolia 2008 last July 26. Anun is a student at Rikkyo University in Japan and has a very ambiguous plan to change tourism management in Mongolia.

    Anun stands 1.73 m tall and she will represent Mongolia at the Miss World beauty pageant 2008 in Kiev, Ukraine, October 4th.
