Crowned Miss Universe Canada 2013 Denise Garrido

The 11th annual Miss Universe Canada took place last May 25 at the Bluma Appel Theatre of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Toronto. Crowned the winner during the night was 26 year old Denise Garrido from Bradford, Ontario.

A mixed of Portuguese and Brazilian descent, Denise stands 1.76m tall, holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and has a degree in Biomedical Sciences with Cum Laude distinction. She also represented Canada in Miss Earth 2008 and Miss World 2010.

Few days after Garrido's crowning, the organization Beauties of Canada (BOC) released a statement about a typo error discovered in the top 5 entries, which significantly impacted the final results of the competition which happened for the 1st time in the history of BOC.

2nd runner-up ­ Diana Martin (Mississauga, ON)

3rd runner-up ­ Denise Garrido (Bradford, ON)

4th runner-up ­ Michelle McKay (Sarnia, ON)

26 year old Riza stands 5'7.5" tall was born in Canada to Filipino parents and has worked as a professional actress in the Philippines. She's not new to the ‘Grand Slam Pageant’ scene, Santos represented Canada in the Miss Earth 2006 held in the Philippines and in Miss World 2011 competition in London. She will now the official representative of Canada in Miss Universe 2013 on December.
